Prolabin & Tefarm opens 2026 with a new publication in Nanomaterials.
In collaboration with CNR–IPCB and INAIL, the study presents the development of biodegradable antibacterial nanostructures for high-touch surfaces in healthcare facilities.
The research focuses on nanostructured coatings based on biodegradable polymers (chitosan and poly(ε-caprolactone)), enriched with zirconium phosphate particles loaded with chlorhexidine—an innovative material with prolonged antibacterial activity and controlled release of the active agent.
The materials were characterized in terms of morphological, physico-chemical, mechanical, and cytocompatibility properties, and demonstrated high antibacterial activity against clinically relevant pathogens, according to standardized protocols and under simulated hospital-use conditions.
This solution combines antibacterial effectiveness with material sustainability, offering a potential contribution to the reduction of healthcare-associated infections on critical surfaces.
