Hydrotalcites and other lamellar solids can be used in the textile industry to confer to the substrates functional properties. Some examples of these functional properties are:

• colour stability
• prolonged antimicrobial activity
• thermal stability and flame retardancy
• chromatic effects (piezochromic, fluorescence, etc …)

Lamellar systems can be applied both on synthetic and natural fibers without appreciable alteration of the sensorial properties of fabrics and yarns.
